On Tuesday 28th, as part of our new Textiles in Art module, students visited Threads of Gloucester at City Works and the Gloucestershire Resource Centre (GRC) and Scrap store.
AASSG we're greeted by Beth, Manager of GRC, The Welcome Space and Creative Workshops. She told them a bit about the Scrapstore ethos, charity and volunteer work and the businesses and people who make the cause possible.
They had a tour of the art shop and part of the warehouse, where endless materials can be found and used for limitless creativity.
They met with Jo Teague, leading artist at The Fabric of Gloucester community project and exhibition, where they were given fabric pieces to illustrate and sew images depicting ‘belonging and identity’. Our students discussed their thoughts and ideas, sketching ways to convey ‘through the power of storytelling’.
This artwork will be exhibited at Llanthony Priory after 18th May 20206. What a privilege for our year 8 artists.
